PREPARATION FOR THE FEAST OF THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD The first 2 weeks of August are a special and holy part of the year for Orthodox Christians, it is a period devoted to the Mother of God, given that the great feast of her Dormition will be on Tuesday 15 August. It is a period of fasting, trying to be more spiritual, prayer, repentance, Confession, reading of spiritual books, etc. Every week day at our Church there will be a Paraklysis Service to the Mother of God from 5 to 6pm.
CLEANING BEE– to thoroughly clean our Church, gardens, yards and courtyard, will be held on Saturday 12 August, 9am till around midday. We would be very grateful if any of you can come and help.
PUBLIC LECTURE Fr John Behr is the Dean of St Vladimir’s Theological College in the United States and also Professor of Patristics at Fordham University. He will give a Public Lecture titled “The Church: our Mother ‘bearing from her heart the word’ to the world today”. This will be held next Wednesday 16 August, from 6.30pm, in the College Hall of St Andrew’s Theological College, which is at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, at 242 Cleveland St, Redfern.
ENGLISH LITURGY – our next one will be on Wednesday 30 August, 7 – 8.30pm
BIBLE STUDY – this continues every Tuesday 7.15 – 8.30pm, except on weeks when we have other events, so not on Tuesday 15 August and not on Tuesday 29 August.
PICNIC This will be held on our grounds after the Liturgy on Sunday 20 August. It has been organised by our Sunday School teachers, and all Western suburbs Sunday Schools will be in attendance- Blacktown, St Marys, Thornleigh, and Parramatta. There will be organised games for children, a story for children, etc. All are welcome.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR OUR FESTIVAL THAT WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY 10 SEPTEMBER This Festival is very large, thousands of people attend, and its success depends heavily on our volunteers. Practically speaking, it helps a lot if our volunteers can let us know they can help well before the Festival.
